VINCENT L. FLETCHER

Grave marker for Vincent L. Fletcher in the Memorial Facing East Row 12, of the Forest Hill Cemetery, Canton, Stark County, Ohio.

"Fletch", as he was known to friends, enlisted in the Army on October 20, 1942 ub Akron, OH, He volunteered for parachutist duty and was sent tro Camp Blanding, FL to join the newly formed 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment (PIR).

He jumped into Normandy with the regiment on D-Day, June 6, 1944 and was initially reported as MIA as of that same day. It was not until September that the unit records were corrected to reflect that he had been wounded in action on July 10, 1944 when he rejoined the unit.
