Jackson registered for the draft in Jacksonville (Duval county, Florida on 16 October 194 and enlisted in the Army at Camp Blanding, FL on 13 February 1943.

Pvt Floyd was transferred from Hq Rear Detachment, 508th PIR, Camp Mackall, NC to Company E on 26 October 1943.

On 23 May 1944 Pvt Floyd was admitted to the 184th  general hospital in Mansfield, England for treatment off a pistol gun shot wound.  It may have been minor as he was returned to duty on 25 May. He was immediately transferred to Service Company for light duty.  Based on Morning Reports, it is uncertain whether he made the Normandy campaign as there is no record .of when he was retuned to Company E.  His obituary, however, indicates that he was there.

It is certain did, however make the next combat jump as he was awarded the Bronze Service Arrowhead device for the Holland campaign and Airborne operations.  Notably, since the arrowhead is awarded but once, it implies that her did not make it to Normandy.

Jackson was promoted to Tec 5 on 1 Nov 1944.

On 5 January 1945 T/5 Floyd was again hospitalized and classed as a non-combat casualty.  He returned to duty on 31 March 1945..

He was discharged on 8 November 1945
