Burial record for James K. Fry in the
Sewickley Cemetery, Sewickley (Allegheny county), Pennsylvania
James enlisted in the Army at enlisted at
Greensburg, PA on 25 August 1943 and after completion of jump school he was
shipped overseas.
During the summer of 1944 Pfc Fry was
assigned to Co A, 508th PIR although his arrival is unrecorded.
On 17 September 1944 Pfc Fry made the jump
into Holland where he was wounded in action two days later and evacuated to
a field hospital. .He returned to his company on 15 October 1944 and
was immediately transferred to service Company for light duty.
Pfc Fry was hospitalized on 21 January 1945 for what was
classed a non-combat injury and was back on duty on 23 January.
James returned to the U.S. on 20 December 1945 and was
discharged at the Unit A separation Center, Indiantown Gap Military
Reservation, PA on 3 January 1946.
His military decorations include the Purple Heart and the Bronze service
Arrowhead device for the Holland campaign and Airborne operations. |
On 27 January 1960 James applied for the
Pennsylvania WWII Veterans Bonus.
He was awarded a total of $375 for his
time in service.
Also noted is the fact that he had married
and they had a one-year old son at that time. |
