BERNARD J. GALLAGHER

 

Grave marker for Bernard J. "Barney" Gallagher in Section 30, Grave 1085-LH of Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington (Arlington county), Virginia.

Barney was born in Ireland on 26 July 1920 and enlisted in the U.S. Army on 2 December 1942.

Sgt Gallagher, Co I, went through the Normandy action unscathed but was wounded in action in Holland on 18 September 1944,  He was able to rejoin the company on September 25th.

His military decorations include the Silver Star and the Bronze Service Arrowhead device awarded for participation in the Normandy assault. 

Sgt Gallagher was discharged on 8 November 1945 and on 6 February he applied for U.S. citizenship.
