ANTHONY J. GEREMIA

   Anthony J. Geremia, 68, of North Providence, succumbed to brain cancer on Thursday, February 13, 2014 at the Philip Hulitar Hospice Inpatient Center in Providence.
   Anthony, son of the late Domenic and Mary (Ferrante) Geremia, was born in Providence and raised in the Silver Lake neighborhood. He graduated from La Salle Academy in 1963, Providence College in 1967, Suffolk University Business School, and the Stonier School of Banking.
   In June 1967, Anthony received his commission in the United States Army and married his longtime sweetheart Beverly (Clare) Geremia. He proudly served two combat tours of duty with the 3d Brigade, 82d Airborne Division in Vietnam, where he received two Bronze Star awards for service.
   Following his active duty service, Anthony embarked on a 35-year career in the banking field culminating in Senior Vice President positions with Bank of America and Webster Bank until his retirement.
   Anthony enjoyed many diverse pursuits over his lifetime that included woodworking, horticulture, golf, and bocce, but he most cherished his worldwide excursions and getaways to his desert retreat in Surprise,

AZ. Anthony’s zest for life could be found in all his interests and were most apparent to those who knew and loved him, especially his two four-legged “kids,” Tiki and Gizmo.
   Anthony is survived by his bride of 46 years, Beverly, and his devoted sons Michael Geremia and his wife Christi of Charlottesville, VA and Kevin Geremia and his wife Jazmine of No. Providence; doting grandfather of Macaila Geremia of Tallahassee, Florida, Anthony Geremia of Charlottesville, and Francesca Geremia of No. Providence; brother of Sylvia Stickland and her husband Herbert of Lincoln, and the late Frances D’Agostino; brother-in-law of Debrorah Hollis and her husband Tom; and uncle of the late John Dougherty, Karen Dougherty, Brian Santosuosso and Kerrin Santosuosso.
   Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Monday at 10 a.m. at St. Anthony’s Church in North Providence. Burial will be private.
   VISITING HOURS are on Sunday from 4-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society RI Chapter, 931 Jefferson Blvd., Suite 3004, Warwick, RI 02886.

Anthony entered active service on 6 June 1967 when he was commissioned as a 2nd Lt. after graduating from Providence College, Providence, RI.

On 15 March 1976 2nd Lt Geremia was the executive officer of Company B, 1st Battalion, 508th Infantry Airborne

He was one of the 90 men about to  board a flight to Vietnam when President Lyndon B. Johnson came to wish them farewell.

Lt Geremia was promoted to 1st Lt on 1 July 1960.

He earned a Bronze Star Medal during each of his two tours in Vietnam..

He was elevated to Captain prior to leaving the service.
