HAROLD F. GERKIN

Harold F. "Bud" Gerkin 81 of 22 St. Joseph Lane, Ithaca (NY) died Aug 13 at Hospicare Residence, Ithaca. He was born in East Chicago, Ind.

He was a sales representative with I.D. Booth & Co., Elmira (NY) and previously worked for Ithaca Floor Covering. He was secretary of Connecticut Hill Field Archers Club, Ithaca, first president of Cornell Figure skating Club and a board member of the Tompkins County SPCA, Alpha House, Learning Web and Group Homes Inc.

He was a United States Army Veteran of World War II in which he received two Purple Hearts and three Bronze Stars.

He was survived by his wife, the former Katharine Pfeiffer Vaczek; two stepsons, Nicolas Vaczek of Ithaca and Adam Vaczek of San Diego, CA. Arrangements were under the direction of the Lansing Funeral Home with a private burial at Chestnut Hill Cemetery in Portville, NY.
