RHETT W. GLEASON

 

Grave markers for Rhett W. Gleason in Black Creek Cemetery, Dovesville (Darlington county), South Carolina.

Rhett served in Company M, 508th ARCT from 1954-56.

   DARLINGTON --- Rhett W. Gleason, age 80, died peacefully at his residence on Monday, March 25th. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 on Thursday, March 28th at Black Creek Baptist Church with burial following in Black Creek Cemetery, directed by Belk Funeral Home.
   Born on December 24, 1932 in Mullins, he was a son of the late William Chillie Gleason and the late Nannie Lane Gleason.
   Rhett served his country in the United States Army as a paratrooper. He worked as a farmer, agricultural pilot and barber, though he had a special love for growing cotton and crop-dusting. He enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family. Mr. Gleason was a member of Black Creek Baptist Church.
   Surviving are his wife, Frances Bryant Gleason; eight children, Rhett Wayne (Jan) Gleason of Norfolk, NE, Edwina (Ed) Baird of Darlington, Patsy (Donnie) Brown , Billy (Lori) Gleason, Sheila (Jim) Spencer all of Mullins, Fran Walker of Murrell's Inlet, Franklin Gleason of Darlington and Willie Pearce; three sisters, Pauline Allison of Marion, Winnie Waller of Eaton, GA and Shirley (Sherrill) Lewis of Florence; 12 grandchildren; and 5 great grandchildren.
   He was preceded in death by four brothers, Everett Gleason, Earl Gleason, Frank Gleason and Randall Gleason.
