WILLIAM L. GOWAN

Son of Bessie Barker Cox Gowan and David B.Gowan.
Grandson of Rosa J. Barker and John A. Barker.

He was a Veteran who served in WWII as a paratrooper with 82nd Airborne: Recipient of Purple Heart, Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, American Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal & Bronze Star Attachment - Triple, and other awards.

Worked for the Federal Government and also Bricklayers Union (Savannah, GA).

Well known for his wit and being a Political Activist.

Grave markers for William L. Gowan in the Turkey Branch United Methodist Church Cemetery, Springfield (Effingham county), Georgia.

William enlisted in the Army at Fort Jackson, Columbia, South Carolina.
