HOWARD A. GREENAWALT

Howard enlisted in the U.S. Army on August 25, 1941 in New Cumberland, PA.  He volunteered for parachutist duty and was assigned to G Company.

It is not currently known when he earned his commission but in a 1945 photo he is seen wearing the rank of  Tec/3

Lt. Col. Howard A. “Hats” Greenawalt, U.S. Army, Ret., 85, of Hershey died Sunday, Sept. 1, 2002 at home.

He was the founding member of the 82nd Airborne Division Association of Pennsylvania; a member of Fishburn United Methodist Church, Retired Officers Association and 508th Parachute Regiment Association, American Legion of Hershey, Zembo Shrine, Harrisburg, Versailes, Ky. Lodge 41, where he was a 32nd degree Mason, and former president of Hershey Lions Club, handling its hospital equipment lending program for many years; a lifetime member of “Century Club” of the Airborne Association, Master Parachutist; and helped found and worked as a volunteer for the Senior Citizens’ People Mover of Hershey.

Surviving are his wife, Nancy J. Greenawalt; a daughter, Laura J. Allmond of Lebanon; two grandsons, Christopher J. Schick and Gregory S. Schick, both of Harrisburg; and a great-grandson.

Graveside services, with military honors, wee held Sept. 6 in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.
