BENJAMIN GREENLESS

Greave marker for Benjamin Greenless and his wife Patricia in the Pine Hill Cemetery, Cheboygan (Cheboygan County), Michigan.

Benjamin enlisted in the Army on 3 December 1942 in Detroit, MI.  As a parachutist volunteer he was initially sent to Camp Toccoa, GA for processing.. He was transferred to the 508th PIR and was in a large group of men arriving on Dec 14th at Camp Blanding, FL where the 508th was training.  He was assigned to Company ":I".

He jumped into Normandy on D-Day and was reported as MIA on 6 June 1944.  He remained a POW until 29 April 19454 hen he was liberated from Stalag 7A Moosburg Bavaria 48-12.

Pfc Greenless was quickly processed and sent back to the States, arriving in New York City Harbor on 12 June 1945 aboard the USS Admiral W. S. Benson (see line 63).
