ROBERT D. GREIDER

Robert Dargan Greider, 79, of 402 S. Monroe St., died at 10:20 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2005, at Community Hospital of Ottawa.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Winterrowd Funeral Home. The Rev. Ron Presley will officiate.

Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Robert Greider, Cathy Taylor, Susan Fornero, Ryan Taylor, Matthew Greider and Rob Abbott.

Honorary pallbearers will be Richard, Adam and Chelsey Greider, Jill Abbott, and Nicole and Alexis Fornero.

Visitation will be 3-6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Born Sept. 10, 1925, in Pontiac, he was the son of Adolphus and Verna (Sinclair) Greider. He married Martha Jean Bradish on Sept. 18, 1954. She survives.

Also surviving are children, Cathleen Lynn (Mrs. Larry) Taylor, Robert Paul Greider, Susan Kay Fornero and Richard Alan (Angela) Greider, all of Streator; six grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; and a brother, James (Rosemary) Greider of Rantoul.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and four sisters.

He attended schools in Pontiac.

He was a paratrooper in the United States Army Air Force during World War II and received a purple heart award.

He retired from U.S. Foodservice in 1987.

He was a member of Teamsters Local #722 for 20 years.

Memorials may be directed to the donor’s choice.

Very little is known of Robert's service as his name appears only once in 508th records on a General Order issued on 19 October 1945.  His assigned company was not recorded.
