JOSEPH  HALL

Grave marker of Joseph Hall in Plot S1-C36, Salem County War Veterans Memorial Park & Cemetery, Woodstown (Salem county), New Jersey.

Joseph entered service on 15 April 1943,  On 19 August 1944, 2nd Lt Hall was transferred from 82nd A/B Division, Leicester, England to Company D, 508th PIR with principal duty of assistant platoon leader.

On 30 January 1945, 2nd Lt Hall was awarded the Silver Star "For Gallantry In Action - 31 December 1944"

On 3 February 1945, Lt Hall was wounded  action and evacuated.   He returned to duty on 12 April 1945 and was transferred to Service Company for further recuperation.

Om 21 May 1945, Lt. Hall  was awarded an Oak Leaf Cluster to the Silver Star "for gallantry in action on 27-28 December 1944.

While hospitalized, he was promoted to 1st Lt on 16 March 1945.

He received further honors on 10 November 1945 when he was awarded the British Military Cross "for outstanding gallantry in action during the period 27 Dec., 1944 to January 1, 1945 near Haute-Bordeaux, Belgium.

His other military awards include the Purple Heart and the Bronze Service Arrowhead device for the Holland campaign and Airborne operations.

Joseph was discharged on 22 December 1945 but rejoined on 27 August 1951.  He retired as a Lieutenant Colonel  on 31 May 1955.
