FRANK D. HAMM

Frank D. Hamm, 73, was retired mechanic

   Frank D. Hamm, 73, of 1035 N. Lime St., died Friday at Lancaster General Hospital after a long illness.
   Hamm was a mechanic for Manheim Township for five years.
   He previously worked as an equipment operator for Martin Bros. Excavating Co. and as a fleet mechanic tor El Capitan Products of Lancaster.
   He was a member of American Legion Post 34, Lancaster. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, Hamm served in central Europe as a radio operator in the 101st Airborne with the 508th Parachute Infantry.
   Hamm enjoyed deep-sea and surf fishing. He was married to Alma Shoff Hamm for 53 years last October.
   Born In Osceola Mills, he was the son of the late Gilbert D. and Della Mills Hamm.
   Surviving besides his wife are a son, Terry L. of Falls Church, Va.; three grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Kathryn Patterson of Lancaster.

Frank registered for the draft in Tyrone, PA on 30 June 1942 and was inducted into the Army at Harrisburg, PA on 13 April 1943.

Pvt Hamm was shipped to the ETO on 6 March 1945.

On 26 Oct 1945, T/4 Hamm was transferred to Hq Hq, 508h PIR from either the 504th or 508th PIR, he was in a large co-mingled group handled under SO-193 but the order didn't specify which source regiment an individual came from.

On 24 April 1946, he was discharged at Fort Dix,. NJ.

On 30 January 1950, Frank submitted this application for the Pennsylvania WWII Veterans Bonus.  He was credited with 23 months of domestic duty and 12 months of foreign service netting him a $410 bonus payment.
