SOUTHERN ILLINOIS

   Donald D. Hammontree, 78, of South Daytona, Fla., died at 2:24 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2002, at his residence.
   The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Aug. 31 at York Funeral Home in Wayne City, with the Rev. Keith Neal and the Rev. Craig Coleman officiating. Burial will be in the Olive Branch Cemetery with graveside military rites conducted by Anthony Wayne, Post 176 of Fairfield. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Aug. 30 in the funeral home.
   Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Volusia County, Florida and will be accepted at the funeral home.

Robert registered for the draft in McLeansboro, IL on 26 June 1942 and was inducted into the Army on 2 March 1943..

On 26 Sept 44, Pvt Haas was transferred from Hq 82nd Airborne Division, Leicester, England to Service Company, 508th PIR..

Pvt Hammontree was transferred to Co B, 508th PIR on 30 October 1943.  However, he was transferred to AGF Replacement Depot #1m Fort George G Meade, MD on 29 November 1943.

He was discharged on 30 December 1945 and on 18 February 1946 he married Aldena Rich in Paducah, KY
