Wiley registered for the draft on 16 February 1942 and entered service on 31 July 1942..

Pvt Harling was assigned to Company D, 508th PIR on 17 March 1943.

On 18 June 1943 he was hospitalized and returned to duty 5 days later.

On 17 August 1944 he was placed on Special duty with the casual detachment.

Two days later he went on furlough and married Christine Loveless in Winston, AL on 21 August.

Returning to the regiment on August 29th, he resumed his assignment with the casual detachment.  On September 2nd he was transferred to the 990th Replacement station.

Pfc Harling re-enlisted at Roswell, NM on 1 January 1946 and was discharged on 22 February 1947.

although his date of death is known, the place of death and burial location has not been determined.
