Donald registered for the draft in Ottawa county, Kansas on 16 December 1942 and was inducted into the Army at Ft Leavenworth, KS on 26 July 1944.

On 29 October 1945 Pct Hart was transferred from the 101st Airborne Division to Company I, 508th PIR.

He was promoted to Pfc on 1 November 1945 and discharged on 25 June 1946.
