ALVIN C. HARTLEY

(courtesy of "Cindy C.")

Grave marker for Alvin C. Hartley in the Lovell Cemetery, Lovell (Big Horn county), Wyoming,

Alvin enlisted in the Army at Duluth, MN on 10 February 1941.

Pvt Hartley transferred from the 82nd airborne Division to Service Company, 508th PIR on 29 September 1944.  He was subsequently transferred to Detachment #1 of the Service Company on 2 November 1944.

He was discharged on 9 November 1945 but apparently re-entered the Army following the attainment of a college degree as a commissioned officer.  He ultimately retired with the grade of Lieutenant Colonel.

Like many of his contemporaries, he saw further service in Korea ad Vietnam.  Unusual, however, is the notation on his headstone of service during, or in, the Bay of Pigs, Cuba.
