Virginia. Elek Hartman enlisted in the Army on
14 Oct 1942 at Camp Perry, NY and volunteered for parachutists duty.
He was sent to Camp Blanding FL, where the 508th PIR had just been
activated, He was assigned to Company B and
remained with that unit throughout the war.
Elek's decorations include the Bronze Star Medal for heroic conduct on
20 Sep 1944 in Holland as well as the Purple Heart with OLC for wounds
sustained in Holland and Belgium. |
