Joseph Hartsough enlisted on 11 December 1941 at Camp Lee, VA, probably as a reaction to the news about the attack on Pearl Harbor four days earlier.  Camp Lee, today Fort Lee, is in the near Petersburg/Richard Virginia area.

Born in 1918 and a native of Pennsylvania, he had completed 4 years of high school and was single, without dependents.

Within the next two years he had graduated from OCS and jump school, although the sequence is not known.  As a 2nd Lt,, perhaps fresh from OCS, he was in the 508th's Service Company when he transferred to Company B on Nov 13, 1944

During the war he acted as Regimental adjutant and his signature appears on various documents including Morning Reports.  In 1944 and 1945 he was successively designated as Custodian of the funds of all companies, then as Adjutant (S-1) and Intelligence Officer (S-2).

Joseph died on January 28, 2005 ad was buried in the Hillside Cemetery, Roslyn, Montgomery County, PA
