Robert
registered for the draft on 16 October 1940 and entered service as an
enlisted man on 14 November 1942.
With two years of college under his belt, Charles was moved into an
officers raining program and may have graduated on 5 June 1943.
2nd Lt Haughney was shipped overseas on 31 January 1945 and on 12 March
1945 he was transferred from the 11th Reinforcement Depot to Hq Hq,
508th PIR with the principal duty of Public Relations Officer.
On 9 May 1945, Charles swapped his gold bars for silver as he was
promoted to 1st Lt.
He returned to the U.S. on 2 March 1946 and was discharged at the
Separation Center, Fort Dix, NJ on 10 August 1946.
Charles submitted this application for the Pennsylvania WWII Veterans
Bonus on 20 January 1950. He was credited with 27 months of
domestic duty and 13 months of foreign service resulting in a $465 bonus
