CURTIS D. HEAD

Grave marker for Curtis D. Head in Glen Abbey Memorial Gardens, Auburndale (Polk county), Florida.

 

Curtis registered for the draft ca. 1944 and was inducted into the Army at Punta Gorda Army Air Field, FL on 13 April 1944.

Pvt Head was transferred from the 12th Replacement Depot to Hq 1st, 508 PIR on 21 July 1944.

Pfc Head was wounded in action in Belgium on 7 January 1945 and transported to an aid station.  He returned to the company on 8 January.

His draft record (page 2) shows a registration date of 2 October 1945 which may correlate to his date of discharge.

Curtis was transferred to 513th PIR on 18 August 1945.

His military decorations include the Purple Heart, the Combat Infantryman Badge for action during Normandy, France Campaign, 6 June 1944 to 9 July 1944 and the Bronze service Arrowhead device for the Holland campaign and Airborne operations
