MELVIN R. HEALEY

Melvin R. "Chip" Healey,75 died at Veterans Administration Hospital at Wichita, KS.

He was the son of John and Catherine Knox Healey, born on Dec.23,1920 at Jefferson, Maine. He attended school at Boston, Mass. After the military he lived in Colorado Springs, Colo. where he worked as a photographer of the Alexander Film Co. He moved to Dodge City in 1974. He was owner-operator of Cottage Inn Restaurant for three years and worked for Plaza Lanes for 8 years and Fun Center for 8 years.

He was member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church and a life member of Howard Gotschall Post No.1714 Veterans of Foreign Wars both of Dodge City, KS. He served in the U.S. Army and was in the 82nd Airborne in the European Theatre.

He married Bonnie Spradling on Aug.12,1943 at Colorado Springs, Colorado. She survives along with three daughters, Bonnie Lee Figger and Elizabeth Pencis Vogel of Dodge City, KS and Sally Borelli of Lakewood, CO; half brother, Joseph Hickey and half sister both of Boston, Mass.,11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Melvin enlisted in the Army at Camp Croft, SC on 23 August 1941.

On 23 July 1944, Pfc Healey was transferred from 82nd Airborne Division to Hq 1st, 508th PIR.

Pfc Healey was discharged on 26 June 1945.

His military decorations include the Bronze Service Arrowhead device awarded for the Holland campaign and Airborne operations.
