Picnic Is Given
For Pvt. Lowell E. Heid,

1.—Thirty-two relatives and friends enjoyed a picnic supper Wednesday
evening at the Fred Heid home, northeast of j Lena, the affair being in
honor of their son, Pvt. Lowell E. Held, who Is home on furlough from
Fort Benning, Ga. He completed four weeks of jump training, during which
he made five Jumps from an airplane in flight, the last being a tactical
jump at night, involving a combat problem on landing, winning for him
his wings and boats.
Parachute specialist training is given to qualified men in
communication, communication, demolition riggers and sewing machine
maintenance, vital skills for airborne troops as well as to parachute
jumpers.
Pvt, Heid reports Thursday to Fort Benning, to await orders. Eldon
L. Heid, the eldest son, Is stationed in the Hawaiian Islands

STOCKTON --- Lowell E. Heid, 81, of Stockton died
Friday, June 8, 2007 at FHN Memorial Hospital in Freeport.
He was born Oct 11, 1925 in Willow, the second son of Frederick and
Clara (Brunner) Heid.
Mr. Heid was employed as an auto body repair man in Rockford and
Moline
Lowell served in World War II as a paratrooper in the 101st
Airborne in England.
He is survived by one daughter, Susan (Nicholas) Stengel of
Derwood, Md.; One son Stephan Heid, of Waco, Texas; one sister, Marilyn
Sowers of Loves Park; three brothers, Alan (Betty) Heid of Machesney
Park, Loyal (Gloria) Heid, of Rockford and Gordon (Patricia) Heid, of
Mission, Texas; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Eldon.
Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. at Hermann Funeral Home.
The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral
home with Rev. Kathleen Brinkmeier officiating. Interment will be
in Lena Burial Park in Lena.
In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established for
Stockton Ambulance. |
Pvt Heid was transferred
from Hq 82nd Airborne Division to Service Company, 508th PIR on 29
September 1944.
He was subsequently
transferred to Company D on 8 December 1944.
Pvt Heid was promoted to Pc
on 20 March 1945.
Pfc Heid was transferred
to the 506th PIR on 13
October 1945.
Pfc Heid arrived in New York, NY with Co B, 504th PIR aboard SS
Queen Mary from Southampton, England on 3 January 1946. A news
article in The Daily Times, Davenport, IA, 03 Jun 1963, Mon, Page 2,
listed Lowell and fiancé Helen Rennacker, both of Moline, as they
applied for a marriage license. |
