Major enlisted in the Army at San Francisco, CA on 8 October 1942.

Pvt Hensley was a member of Service Company from 1942 through 1944.  On 19 March 1945, Pfc Hensley was transferred to Company D.  The following month he was transferred to the 407th Airborne Quartermaster Corp.
