William enlisted in the Army at Philadelphia, PA on 23 March 1943.

On 13 February 1945, Pvt Henwood was transferred from the 3rd Replacement Depot to Company E, 508th PIR.

Pfc Henwood's military decorations include the Combat Infantryman Badge for action from 15 Feb 1945 to 20 Feb 1945

He was discharged on 17 January 1946 at the Indiantown Gap Military Reservation, PA
