Bernabe registered for the draft in San Antonio, TX on 26 April 1945.

Pvt Hernandez was transferred from Hq 82nd Airborne Division, Leicester England to Service Company, 508tyh PIR on 27 October 1944. He was then transferred to Company E on 21 November 1944,

Bernabe was promoted to Pfc on 22 January 1945.

Pfc Hernandez re-enlisted on 28 October 1945 and was discharged on 21 February 1947.

His military decorations include the Combat Infantryman Badge awarded for for action during the campaign, 18 Dec 1944 to 20 Feb 1945
