RAYMOND HERNE

Raymond Herne

   Raymond Herne, 117 S. Dewey Ave., died today at Veterans Administration Hospital, Wilkes-Barr, after an illness. He was the husband of the former Florita Leccese.
   Born in Scranton, the son of David Herne and the late Elizabeth Giles Herne, he was a construction worker, a veteran of World War II, a member of Berean Interdenominational Church, Keyser Valley Sporting Club, and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
   Other survivors are a son, Raymond Jr., at home; a daughter, Mrs. Sheila Ferraro, this city; a granddaughter; five brothers, Phillip, Columbus, Ohio; Valentine, David, John and Willard, all of this city; three sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Seeley, Allentown; Mrs. Rhoda Gallagher and Mrs. Agnes Smith, both of this city, and several nieces and nephews.
   The funeral will be Monday at 2 p.m. from Davies and Jones Funeral Chapel, 135 S. Main Ave., with the Rev. Edward C. Canterbury, of Berean Church, officiating. Interment, Washburn Street Cemetery. Viewing, Saturday from 8 to 9 p.m.; Sunday, 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Grave maker for Raymond Herne in Washburn Street Cemetery, Scranton (Lackawanna county), Pennsylvania.

 

Raymond registered for the draft in Scranton, PA on 30 June 1942 and was inducted into the Army at Wilkes Barre, PA on 5 January 1943.

Pvt Herne was assigned to Service Company, 508th PIR, date unknown as Morning Reports for that period are unavailable.  He first appears when he went on furlough on August 1943.

He was promoted to Pfc on 4 January 1945
