HAROLD W. HERR

Two In Maneuver
  
Two Lancaster men will take part in a 101st Airborne Division maneuver at Ft. Campbell, Ky , this month. They are Sgt. 1C Harold W. Herr, thirty, son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter C. Herr, 419 W. Walnut St., io is a clerk r and Sgt. 1C John E. Bard, twenty-five, son of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel R. Clerico, 437 Chambers St.

HERR, Harold Walter 81, of St. Petersburg, died July 6. He retired from the Army, having served in the Airborne Division for over 20 years. His loving family resides in FL, IN and WA.

Harold registered for the draft in Lancaster, PA on 10 January 1946 and was inducted into the army at Harrisburg, PA on 4 March 1946.

 

Following his separation from the Army, his Selective Service record was annotated by hand with "Honorable Discharge, RA, C of G." i.e., "Regular Army, Convenience of Government"

Harold re-enlisted on 3 August 1948 and according to an entry in the Red Devil Digest, Vol. 7 No. 1. was in 508th ARCT, Service Co from 1951-56.

As the 508th was morphed into the 101st when it returned from Beppu, Japan. Sgt Herr did as well,

Harold retired as a Sergeant First Class on 19 August 1998.
