EARL G. HICKMAN

Earl G. Hickman, 94, passed away in Casa Grande Arizona January 4 at 0530 after a two year battle with Alzheimer and lastly Shingles. ​

Earl was born February 6, 1921 in Bogue Kansas. Earl was preceded in death by his wife Barbara Hickman 01/28/1986 and one grandson Aaron Hickman 01/11/1998.

Earl is survived by three children, Douglas Joseph, Oregon; Anne of Casa Grande, Arizona; and Earl Jr. of Colorado Springs, Colorado and many grand and great-grand children.

Earl joined the Colorado National Guard in 1938 and was assigned to Company I 157th Infantry. When war broke out he took a discharge from the National Guard to join the Regular Army and become a Paratrooper. After jump school he was assigned to Service Company 508 PIR where he remained until the end of the Holland campaign when he was transferred to F company and that is where he ended the war.

Earl returned to Europe three times to visit former battle fields and was accompanied by son Earl Jr. who said that he will never forget his father's comment when he was showed German General Falley's grave in Orglandes, France. "They got even with that SOB! They buried three enlisted men on top of him!"

After the war Earl hired out on the Union Pacific Railroad until he retired in 1983. After that he pursued his lifelong hobby of raising racing Greyhounds. He retired from that in 2001.

Earl was cremated and his ashes, as well as those of his wife Barbara, will be taken to Sharon Springs, Kansas for burial later this year.
