ROLAND B. HICKS

Roland B. Hicks, 64,of 3825 Capers, Ave., died Saturday.
   Born in Florence county, her was a son of the late Robert and Dallie Miles Hicks.  He was a retired service station mechanic and an Army veteran of World War II.  He was a member of Columbia Freewill Baptist Church.
   Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Thelma Hicks, daughters, Judy Hicks of Columbia, Shirley Dowdey of West Columbia, and Nancy Wallis of Washington, D.C.; a brother Clifford Hicks of Columbia; a sister Rosa Lee Henry of Columbia; and grandchildren.
   Memorials may be made to the Columbia Freewill Baptist Church building fund.
   The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel.
   Plans will be announced by the funeral home.

MR. HICKS:  Funeral service of Mr. Roland B. Hicks will be held in Dunbar Funeral home, Divine Street Chapel, this (Monday) afternoon at 3 o'clock.  Interment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park.

Draft card filed in 1941 (based on age) for Roland Boyd Hicks as a resident of Clinton, SC.  He subsequently enlisted at Ft Bragg, NC on 22 January 1943 and was assigned to Company A, 508th PIR.

Pfc Hicks participated in the Normandy hump and went into the Bulge as well.  It is unclear whether he was involved in the Holland campaign.

T4 Hicks was hospitalized as a non-battle casualty on 19 January 1945, possibly due to frostbite. He was reassigned to the company by a transfer from the 19th Reinforcement Depot on 31 May 1945.

His military decorations include the bronze Service Arrowhead device which was awarded for participation in Normandy beachheads and Airborne operations
