Grave marker for Guy M. Higgins in Section Km Site 5024, Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery, Knoxville (Knox county), Tennessee.

Guy registered for the draft in St. Petersburg, FL on 15 November 1943, 2 weeks after his 18th birthday as required by law.

At that time, he was attending the Transportation Corps Marine Officer Candidate School.  Note also that his mother's employer was listed as the U.S. Military Sea Transportation Service so his interest in becoming an maritime officer may have been influenced by that.

Guy's first entry into service is recorded as 1 January 1943, the reason for the discrepancy between that and his draft date is unknown.  He was released on 1 January 1951 and then entered service again just 15 days later, perhaps as a call back for the Korean Conflict.

Capt Higgins was transferred from the 31st Infantry Division to the 508th ARCT on May 29, 1951 and served there until he was again released on 5 November 1951.
