ALMON J. HIX

(courtesy of Charlie Porter)

Grave marker of Almon J. Hix in the Paris Mountain Holiness Baptist Church Cemetery, Greenville (Greenville county), South Carolina. [Note the 82nd Airborne Division logo and the parachutist's wings engraved above his name].

Almon enlisted in the Army at Fort Bragg, NC and was assigned to Company D, 508th PIR.  An illness  and hospitalization made him sit out the Normandy campaign.  He did, however, participate in the jump into Holland and he was wounded there on 24 September 1944.

Pfc Hix's military decorations include the Purple Heart Medal and the Bronze Service Arrowhead device for the Holland campaign and Airborne operations.
