Almon enlisted in the Army at Fort Bragg, NC and was
assigned to Company D, 508th PIR. An illness and
hospitalization made him sit out the Normandy campaign. He did,
however, participate in the jump into Holland and he was wounded there
on 24 September 1944.
Pfc Hix's military decorations include the Purple
Heart Medal and the Bronze Service Arrowhead device for the Holland
campaign and Airborne operations. |
