HERBERT A. HUGHES

Grave marker for Herbert A. Hughes in Green Hills Cemetery, Asheville (Buncombe county), North Carolina.

Herbert enlisted in the Army at Camp Croft, SC on 10 October 1942.

Pvt Hughes was transferred from the Reception Center, Fort Jackson, SC to Company B, 50-8th PIR on 23 October 1943,

Although he made it through the Normandy Campaign unscathed, Pfc Hughes was wounded in action on September 1944 in Holland. 

Still hospitalized, he was transferred to the Detachment of Patients of an unknown hospital  on 18 December 1944.  He did not return to the regiment.

His military decorations incl;ude the Purple Heart and the Bronze Service Arrowhead device awarded for action during the Normandy, France Campaign, 6 June 1944 to 9 July 1944,
