Elroy
V. Huwe. 87, of Eau Claire, Wis,, made his final flight borne to be with
his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in Heaven on Thursday, April 8,2010.
He was born in Lily, S.D., on April 4, 1923, a son of Emil and Mary
{Anderson) Huwe. He was baptized as an infant and confirmed as an adult
in the Lutheran faith. He graduated from Butler High School in Butler,
S.D., in 1942.
He served in the U.S. Army from May 29, 1943, until his honorable
discharge on November 9, 1945. He served as a paratrooper with the 101st
Airborne Division, 50lst PIR. in the D-Day invasion in Normandy, France,
on June 6, 1944. He also served in the liberation of Holland, Battle of
the Bulge in Bastogne, Belgium, and Alsace-Lorraine campaign. He served
as Honorary Honor Guard for President Franklin LX Roosevelt's memorial
service in Europe, and also for General Dwight D. Eisenhower’s Supreme
Headquarters in Austria.
Elroy married Beverly J. Cavanaugh on September 3, 1950, in Butler. They
moved to Eau Claire in June 1954.
His career included working as a bus driver for Randall Bus Lines in
Mitchell, SD.. then 30 years as a shipping clerk and truck driver for Ed
Phillips & Sons in Eau Claire until his retirement in 1985.
Elroy was an active member of Christ Lutheran Church in Chippewa Falls,
Wis. As a private pilot he served with the Civil Air Patrol from the
mid-'50s to 1962. He enjoyed woodworking and carving, reading, and
spending time with his grandchildren.
Elroy is survived by his beloved wife, Beverly; a wonderful father to
his five children. Daniel (Diane) Huwe of Sioux Falls, S.D,, Cheryl Huwe
of Eau Claire, Gayle Johnson of Eau Claire, Charles Johnson of Green
Bay, Wis., and James (Nancy) Huwe of Deerfield, Wis; 18 grandchildren,
Daniel (Amy) Huwe, DeDra (Derrick) Iverson, Kevin (Lisa) Rabska, Kristi
Rabska, Kyle Johnson,. Melissa, Sara and Alex Johnson, Shine, Chanel,
Jeremiah and Charity Huwe, Courtney, Elizabeth, Megan and Edwin Zamzow,
Aree and Noppanat Huwe; four great-grandchildren, Danielle, Christopher,
Lucas and Jordyn Huwe; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in
death by his parents; brother, Rodney, and sister-in-law. Betty Huwe.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 12, 2010, at
Christ Lutheran Church, 467 E. Colome St. Chippewa Fails, with Pastor
Mark Homp officiating. Burial will be at Northern Wisconsin Veteran's
Memorial Cemetery near Spooner.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 pm. Sunday at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn
Funeral Home, 814 First Ave.. Eau Claire and one hour prior to services
Monday at the church.
Family requests memorial be directed to the Christ
Lutheran Church School 467 E. Colome St, Chippewa Falls. WI 54729, or to
the charity of the donor's choice.
