JAMES R. IVEY

[courtesy of Loree & Billy Beacham]

Memorial marker for James R.. Ivey in  Salem Baptist Church Cemetery, Browns Crossing (Baldwin county), Georgia.

James was, however, buried in Dublin Memorial Gardens, Dublin (Laurens) county, Georgia.

James registered for the draft in Perry, GA on 25 January 1947.  Following graduation from Mercer University, Macon, GA in 1949, he accepted a commission in the Army and volunteered for parachutist duty.

2nd Lt Ivey was assigned to Company M, 508th ARCT and participated in the Operation Gyroscope deployment to Camp Chickamauga, Japan.

On 2 January 1954, 2nd Lt Ivey  arrived in Seattle., WA from Yokohama, Japan aboard USAT General Mason M Patrick [T-AP-150].  He was berthed in a First Class cabin and it is presumed that this was officer country, i.e., all other men shown here were officers, but not necessarily from the 508th.

Following his return, James was elevated to the grade of 1st Lt. on 18 January 1954.

However, he was discharged just two days later.
