FRANCIS  JOSEPH JANISCH

Francis Joseph Janisch
(April 14, 1934 - June 14, 2011)

Funeral Mass for Francis Joseph Janisch, 77 of Sisseton, SD will be held on Thursday, June 16, 2011 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Sisseton, with Rev. Fr. Norman Volk, O.M.I. Celebrant. Special music will be provided by Marcia Peterson and Sherman Hannasch. Pallbearers will be Terry Steiner, Landon Janisch, Russell Janisch, Aaron Steiner, Christopher Janisch, and Raymond German. Honorary Pallbearers will be all of Francis’ Dialysis Nurses, Hospice Nurses, Home Health Nurses and his grandchildren. Interment will be in the Sisseton Cemetery, Sisseton, SD. with Military Rites by the Otto-Quande-Renville American Legion Post #50 and Fort Sisseton VFW Post #3342.

There will be a visitation on Wednesday, June 15, 2011 from 3:00 to 5:00 PM at the Cahill Funeral Chapel, and from 6:00 to 7:00 PM at St. Peter’s Catholic Church with a 7:00 PM Prayer Service, and one hour prior to the Funeral Mass at the Church on Thursday.

Francis Joseph Janisch was born on April 14, 1934 in the Britton Hospital, Britton, SD to Frank and Elizabeth (Schlekewy) Janisch. He grew up and graduated from the 8th grade from Buffalo No 1. He worked on farms around Eden, SD for Hubert Opitz and Idwal Jones in Britton.

On December 22, 1954 he joined the United States Army. He went to 8 weeks basic training at Fort Ord, California, after which he then went to three weeks jump school in Fort Campbell, Kentucky. He was a then a Para trooper and flew to Japan where he served as a medic.

He was honorable discharged on December 12, 1956 from Fort Campbell Kentucky. Francis received the good conduct medal and the parachutists badge. After being discharged from the Army he returned to South Dakota and worked road Construction for five years.

On April 6, 1959 he married Barbara Fonder. They moved to the family farm by Eden, SD the fall of 1961. They had six children. He served on the voluntary fire department of Eden from 1964 to 1999. He served as the Clerk and Supervisor of The Buffalo Township Board from 1964 to 2004. He was a member of the Otto-Quande-Renville American Legion Post #50 for thirty six years. They moved to Sisseton in November of 2009.

He enjoyed playing various card games, raising cattle and baling hay. Francis passed away on June 14, 2011 at his home in Sisseton, SD. Francis is survived by his wife, Barbara of Sisseton, SD; five children, Gloria Janisch and Alan Reyes of Denver, Co, James and Donn Janisch of Eden, SD, Joseph and Ronald Janisch of Watertown, SD; one sister, Mrs. Delores Rice of Britton, SD; nine grandchildren, Tanya Hagre, Tosha Heitmann, Christopher Janisch, Morgan Janisch, Landon Janisch, Russell Janisch, Chasity Janisch, Brooke Janisch, and Bridget Janisch. Francis was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, one daughter-in-law, four brothers and one brother-in-law.
