STEFAN JEWASKO

Grave marker for Stefan Jewasko in the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, San Antonio (Bexar County), Texas

Born in New York, he enlisted from Massachusetts on March 31, 1942 and served in the 508th's Hq 1st and/or Hq Hq companies during WW-II.

Following the end of the war, Stefan apparently switched over to serve in the newly created U. S. Air Force after it was activated on September 18, 1947.  While there he attained the rank of Corporal which is equivalent today of Airman First Class (E-3).

Since the Air Force created its own grade designations which became effective on 24 April 1952 with the release of a revised Air Force Regulation (AFR) 39-36, Stefan probably did not serve beyond the early 1950s.

Stefan was single at the time of his death.  Following his discharge he continued to work in railroading.  His occupation when he first enlisted his was stated to be "Semiskilled brakemen, railroad"
