CARLTON R. JOHNSON

Carlton R. "Johnny" Johnson November 12, 2013 age 90 of Pinson, AL passed away on November 12, 2013. He was preceded in death by his son, Charlie Johnson; parents, Plemon and Dora Johnson. Johnny is survived by his wife (27 years), Joyce M. Johnson; step-son, Brian Maxwell; step-daughter, Kelli M. Ward; sisters, Mary Hopper and Wanda Turner; daughter-in-law, Donna Johnson; 5 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren; 1 niece.

Visitation will be Wednesday, November 13, 2013 from 5 PM until 8 PM at Ridout's Trussville Chapel. Funeral service will be Thursday, November 14, 2013 at 2 PM at Ridout's Trussville Chapel. Interment will follow at Jefferson Memorial Gardens.

John enlisted in the Army at Ft McClellan, Alabama on 1 February 1943. 

After completion of basic training and jump school he was shipped overseas to England.  On 31 March 1944 Pvt Johnson was transferred from Field Force Replacement Depot #8, 82nd Airborne Division, to Headquarters Company 1st Battalion, 508th PIR.

Pfc Johnson was wounded in action of 4 July 1944 in Normandy, France and returned to the unit a few days later.

Pfc Johnson was promoted to Corporal on 2 February 1945 while in the field during the Battle of the Bulge.

Cpl Johnson was seriously wounded in action on 10 February 1945 and was evacuated to a field hospital..  He returned to duty on 6 March 1945.

His military decorations include the Bronze star Medal, the Purple Heart with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster, the Combat Infantryman Badge and the Bronze Service Arrowhead device.
