GEORGE J. JOHNSON

Grave marker for George J. Johnson in the Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton, Worcester County, Massachusetts.

Although born in Wisconsin, George enlisted in Springfield, MA on 27 November 1942.  A parachutist volunteer, he was assigned to the 508th PIR.  Following basic training,  he went through jump school at Ft. Benning and was declared a qualified parachutist on 12 March 1943.

He jumped into Normandy with the regiment on D-Day, 6 June 1944 and was awarded the Bronze Service Arrowhead for his participation in that air assault.

Pfc Johnson was discharged on 24 January 1946.
