LYNWOOD L. JOHNSON

   Capt. Lynwood Lewis Johnson, US Army Retired, 75 of Blackshear, passed away Wednesday, February 13, 2013, at his residence.
   Born in Waycross, Georgia on January 29, 1938, he had lived all over the world while serving his country in the military. He bought property in Blackshear in 1966 but didn't make Pierce County his home until 1975.
   Capt. Johnson enlisted in the Army and went on to earn the rank of Captain. He was an Airborne Ranger and Paratrooper and was awarded several medals including the Silver Star.
   Following his retirement from the Army, Capt. Johnson went on to retire from Ware Correctional Institute where he had worked as a correctional officer. He had also owned and operated the 5 Points Shell station for many years.
   Capt. Johnson was a member of the American Legion – Post 181, was a Mason and was a member of the Elks Lodge. He loved to fish, work on crossword puzzles and watching his grandchildren play sports. He was of the Baptist faith.
   He was a son of the late Purdom Lewis & Maggie Jane Lynn Johnson. He was also preceded in death by both of his brothers, Bill Johnson and Larry Johnson.
   Survivors include his wife, Valiene Sirmans Johnson of Blackshear; a daughter and son-in-law, Teresa & Scott Wainwright of Blackshear; three sons and daughters-in-law, Mike & Pam Johnson of Waycross, Greg & Liz Johnson of Waco, TX and Bob & Susan Johnson of Blackshear; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Kathryn & Byron Winters of Blackshear and Wanda & Tom DiBiase-Fowler of Waycross; two half-sisters and a half brother-in-law, Diane & Bobby Ellis of Brunswick and Donna Tinnerman of Atlanta; a sister-in-law, Sharon Johnson of Waynesville; 17 grandchildren, Mandy Alvey, Jake Holton, Lyn & Ashley Day, Ashley & Angie Stokes, Bryan Stokes, Tenesa & Jonathan Bennett, Kate Wainwright, Austin Stokes, Rachel Wainwright, Chris Johnson, Steven Johnson, David Johnson, Gregory Johnson, Ryan Johnson, Rob Johnson, Conner Johnson and Caitlyn Johnson; 9 great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews & other relatives.
   Visitation: The family will receive friends from 1 until 3 pm Sunday afternoon at the funeral home. Service: Funeral services for Capt. Johnson will be held at 3:00 o'clock Sunday afternoon, February 17, 2013, at the chapel of Pearson-Dial Funeral Home. Cemetery: Interment with military honors will be in the Blackshear Cemetery.
