QUAY A. JOHNSON

MERCERSBURG, Pa. - Quay A. Johnson, 81, of Little Cove Road, died Monday, July 25, 2005, at Washington County Hospital.

Born June 15, 1924, in Hancock, he was the son of the late Richard and Goldie Younker Johnson.

He was employed by PennDOT as a heavy equipment operator.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army. He received a Purple Heart.

His memberships included Clarence Armstrong VFW Post 6241 and American Legion Post 517, both in Mercersburg; Improved Order of Red Men Conococheague Tribe 84 in Williamsport; Fort Loudon American Legion Post 606; and Military Order of The Purple Heart.

He is survived by his wife, LaRue S. Fritz Johnson, whom he married April 10, 1943; one son, Ronald A. Johnson of Mercersburg; one sister, Fern Andrews of Delaware; one granddaughter; two great-grandsons; and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Mae Weller; and four brothers, Elmo Johnson, Elwood Johnson, Glen Johnson and Henry Johnson.

Services will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at Grove Funeral Home, Hancock. The Revs. Alen Reed and Harry Strite will officiate. Burial will be in Little Cove Methodist Cemetery, Mercersburg, with military graveside rites conducted by Tri-State Honor Guard.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home, which will open at 2 p.m.

Grave markers for Quay A. Johnson in the Little Cove Methodist Church Cemetery, Mercersburg (Franklin county), Pennsylvania.

Quay enlisted in the Army at Harrisburg, PA on 8 April 1943 and served in Company H, 508tth.

He was seriously wounded in action on 25 June 44 and evacuated to a field hospital.  He did nor return to the regiment.
