STONEY L JOHNSON

Grave marker for Stoney L. Johnson in Montlawn Memorial Park, Raleigh (Wake county), North Carolina

Stoney registered for the draft on 39 June 1942 signing his name as "Stroney" which is the first variation in the spelling of his give name.

He was inducted with the name of "Stoney" into he Army on enlisted at Fort Bragg, NC on 19 July 1944

On 26 October 1945, he appeared as "Stoney" on Special Order 193 issued by Service Company which recorded numerous transfers from the 504th and 505th PIR's.  His name was lined through, however, and the transfer may have never taken place.

He was discharged on 25 June 1946.  His veterans affairs record carried his name as "Stroney"

On 22 February 1949, "Stroney" married  Rose Marie Beddingfield in Franklin, NC.

From 1949 though 2002 his name is listed as "Stroney" in the Raleigh, NC city directories although one variation of "Stronie:" is seen.

.Despite the fact that his VA entries listed him as "Stroney" his grave marker. which is issued through the same agency, immortalizes him as "Stoney."
