LESLIE G. JOHNSTON

Grave marker for Leslie G. Johnston in the Metropolis Memorial Gardens, Metropolis (Massac county), Illinois.

Leslie enlisted in the Army at Chicago, IL on 23 September 1942.  His early service career is unknown.

On 3 February 1945 Pfc Johnston was transferred from the 509th PIR to Hq 3rd, 508th PIR.  Two days later he was listed as slightly injured in action and sent to a field hospital.

On 16 March 1945 Pfc Johnston was able to rejoin his company.

His name next appeared on an unofficial roster of names and home addresses for men in Hq 3 at APO 757 [Frankfurt], as of 9/23/1945.

Later discharged, his military decorations include the Bronze Service Arrowhead device awarded for Southern France Campaign and Airborne Operations.
