LESLIE K. JONES

Leslie K. 'Casey' Jones, 87, of 416 Sunset Lane, Shippensburg, died Tues., March 23, 2010 in the Chambersburg Hospital.

Born December 10, 1922 in Mercersburg, Franklin County, to William Leslie & Elsie Viola (Sigel) Jones. He was predeceased by wife, Mabel V. (Shoop) Jones, December 28, 1990; three brothers and two sisters. Casey was a member of Prince Street United Brethren Church, Shippensburg.

He retired from the Letterkenny Army Depot, Chambersburg and was a U.S. Army veteran of WW II serving with the 509th Parachute Infantry Battalion.

Survived by son, Charles M. Wingerd & wife Deborah, Shippensburg; daughter, Shelby J. Leedy & husband Kenneth, Chambersburg; brother, Harold Jones, San Antonio, TX; sister, Kathryn Linn, Shillington, Berks co.; special friend, June E. Minor, Shippensburg; 6 grandchildren; 12 gr. grandchildren and 4 gr. gr. grandchildren. Funeral will be 3 PM Sun., March 28, in Prince Street United Brethren Church, Shippensburg. Officiating will be the Rev. James O. Bolich.

Burial with military rites conducted by the Shippensburg VFW & American Legion Posts at Spring Hill Cemetery. A viewing will be Sunday afternoon, one hour prior to services in the church.

Dewey enlisted at Harrisburg, PA on 6 February 1943 but did not join the 508th until he, as a Pfc, was transferred to Co H from the 509th PIB on 3 Feb 1945 as it was being inactivated.

Pfc Jones received the Bronze Service Arrowhead Device for the Southern France Campaign and Airborne Operations
