(photos courtesy of Bill Bloom)

John F. Junkerman enlisted in the Army at Philadelphia, PA on 9 September 1942. He volunteered for parachutist duty and was assigned to Company B, 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment, Camp Blanding, FL.

Pvt Junkerman parachuted into Normandy, France on D-Day 6 June 1944 where he was wounded on 4 July 44.

John died on Feb 21, 1997 in Aston, PA and, as is shown on the Pennsylvania record for the Burial Of A Veteran, he served in Company B, of the 508th Parachute Infantry during WWII.

As his Bronze Military marker indicates, he received the Purple Heart as he was wounded on 4 July 1944, probably on Hill 95 near the ridge at La Poterie.
