HAROLD A. KASPER

Harold A. Kasper, 85, formerly of Stevens Point, died Aug. 21, 2007, at the Wisconsin Veterans Home in King. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. today at St. Paul Lutheran Church with Rev. Thomas Petersen officiating. officiating. Visitation is today at Boston Funeral Home from 10 a.m. until time of service at the church. Burial will follow the funeral service in St. Joseph Cemetery.
   Harold was born Sept. 8, 1921, to the late Andrew and Emily (Abermite) Kasper in Chicago, IL. Harold grew up in Chicago, attended the local schools and then worked for Kraft Food until being drafted into the Army. He married Catherine Moninger on Nov. 14, 1942, in Chicago, IL. She preceded preceded him in death on Aug. 7, 1989.
   Harold was inducted into the U.S. Army on Dec. 11, 1942. He served during during the WWII era as an infantryman and parachutist. His service led him through campaigns in northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe. During his time of service Harold received an American Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with 4 Bronze Battle Stars, Good Conduct Medal, WWII Victory Medal, and one Service Stripe. He was honorably discharged on Dec. 28, 1945.
   After the service, Harold returned to Chicago. In 1948, Harold and. his wife moved to California for a short time until they returned to Chicago in 1950. In 1960, they moved to Amherst and then to Stevens Point in 1969. They managed a halfway house from 1979 to 1986.
   Harold's work history includes Kraft Foods, Clearing Machinery, the Portage County sheriffs office as a maintenance worker, Service Master, maintenance at the Sentry Insurance Golf Course and Drott Manufacturing as a welder.
   Harold was a member of the Disabled American Veterans. He was an avid fisher. Harold enjoyed boat and car rides. He also enjoyed the company of others and looked forward to eating out at various restaurants.
   Survivors include his daughters, Margaret (Carl) Westrich of Stevens Point and Lynn Pavloski of Kissimmee, Fla; grandchildren, Neil Pavloski, Tammy Schmick, Todd Pavloski, and Charity Westrich; great-grandchildren, Krisha, Tierra, Xavier and Cassie; brother, Ed Kasper of Fla.; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife; parents; son-in-law, Gordon; and sister, Evelyn.

Grave markers for Harold A. Kasper in Saint Joseph Cemetery, Stevens Point (Portage county), Wisconsin.

On 14 November 1952, Harold married Catherine Moninger [1923 - 1989] in Chicago (Cook county), Illinois.  Four weeks later, on 22 December, he was inducted into the Army.

Pvt Kasper was transferred to Company G, 508th PIR from the Parachute School on 29 April 1943.

He was promoted to the grade of T/5 on 22 October 1944.

T/5 Kasper ws honorably discharged on 28 December 1945.

His military decorations include the Bronze Service Arrowhead device awarded for participation in Normandy assault.
