MR J D KELLEY

   Mr. J D Kelley of 5330 Sandtrap Lane, Charlotte died January 13 1982 at his home. Mr. Kelley was born July 3 1922 in Cabarrus County, NC to Mrs. Bertie Miller Kelley and the late J D Kelley. He was a Salesman with the Henley Paper Co and a member: of Christ Lutheran Church.. Funeral services will be 11 AM Saturday, January 16, at Christ Lutheran Church conducted by his pastors Dr. Jacob L Lackey and the Rev Gary Eichhorn.  Committal Services will follow at 1 PM Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery in Cabarrus County. He is survived by his wife Mrs. Zelda Overcash Kelley; a daughter Miss Patricia Anne Kelley of the home ,his mother Mrs. Bertie M Kelley of Concord NC; two brothers Earl Kelley and Glenn Kelley both of Concord; a sister Mrs. Robert (Betty) S Rice of Blacksburg VA. Memorials may be sent to Hospice at Charlotte, P O Box 221118, Charlotte, NC 28222 or Christ Lutheran Church. 4519 Providence Road, Charlotte 28211. Harry and Bryant Co is serving the family of Mr. Kelley.

J.D. enlisted in the Army on 22 July 1940 in Charlotte, NC and was assigned to the 507th PIR.

On 16 October 1942,  J.D. was transferred in the initial contingent of officers and men who were to act as cadre in the newly formed 508th PIR ..

On T/5 Kelley was attached from Med Det to Hq Hq.

T/5 Kelley was promoted to Staff Sergeant on 15 November 1942 .

On 5 April 1947, JD married Sarah Zelda Overcash in Kannapolis, NC.
