Grave marker for J. D. Kelley in the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church Cemetery, Kannapolis (Cabarrus county), North Carolina

J.D. enlisted in the army on 22 July 1940 in Charlotte, NC and was assigned to the 507th PIR.  Following completion of basic training and jump school, J.D. was transferred in the initial contingent of officers and men who were to act as cadre in the newly formed 508th PIR and was assigned to Hq Hq.
