Marion registered for the
draft at Slippery Rock, PA on 20 June 1942 and was inducted into the
Army on 23 March 1943 at Fort George G. Meade, MD.
Pvt Kelly was transferred
from the 6900th Reinforcement to Company G, 508th PIR on 3 June 1945.
He was discharged from the
Army on 29 November 1945 and is listed as reenlisting the following day
in the Air Force ... but the Air Force didn't come into being until 18
September 1947.
However, he was discharged
on 3 December 1948 at Langley AFB, VA, the first military base built in
the United States specifically for air power so it is probable that he
did change service branches in 1947-48.
Marion filed this
application on 18 January 1949 for the Pennsylvania WWII Veterans Bonus.
He was credited with 24 months of domestic duty and 11 months of foreign
service which resulted in a $405 bonus payment.
