Grave marker for Charles D. Kent in Section 24, Site 88 of
the Dayton National Cemetery, Dayton (Montgomery county), Ohio.
Charles enlisted in the Army at Indianapolis, IN on 28
May 1943. Pvt Kent completed basic training and jump school prior
to being shipped to an 82nd Airborne Replacement Depot designated as
FFRD #3 in England.
Pvt Kent was then transferred to Company A, 508th.on
31 March 1944.
He was soon thrown into the fray in Normandy, wounded
just two days after the jump. But, he was not only promoted to Pfc
on July 21st, he was elevated to T/5 on August 1st.
Wounded a second time o 19 September '44 while in
Holland, he was able to rejoin the company. On 19 January 45,
during the Battle of the Bulge he was bumped to Staff Sergeant.
As the men of the regiment began cashing in their
point for an early return to the U.S., SSgt Kent was transferred to the
513th PIR on 8 August 1945 to take a billet on their troop ship. |
