Kienly, Jr. in Arroyo Grande Cemetery, Arroyo Grande (San Luis Obispo
county), California.
Joseph entered the Army on
27 July 1934 although there is no enlistment record. It is
believed that he was initially a reservist and earned a commission
within that service branch.
Based on Department of
Veterans Affairs records Joseph re-enlisted on 24 April 1942 but his
rank at that time is no known.
1/Lt Kienly was
transferred Company D, 508th PIR from the 551st PIR on 29 January
1945. On 1 April 1945 he was transferred to Regimental
Headquarters Company.
On 31 May 1945 1/Lt Kienly
was transferred to the 82nd Airborne Division Headquarters.
Following WWII Joseph
continued to serve as a reservist and retired as a Major on 30 June
1955.
His military decorations
include the Purple Heart, Bronze Star Medal and the Combat Infantryman
Badge. |
